Self-Care with Water: Beyond the Bubble Bath

A trip to the spa is nice, but really, who can afford that regular visit to the masseuse with work, kids, and other obligations filling up virtually every moment of your life. It’s important amidst all the chaos daily life brings your way to take time for yourself, even if it’s as simple as a cup of tea or a quick bubble bath. We’ve got some self-care ideas where all you need is a little water to feel a major difference.

Don’t Believe the Self-Care Myths

One of the most common self-care misconceptions is that you need to go all in with resources you don’t have on hand to create a total environmental shift that supports your refreshed mental health. We will be the first to tell you; don’t hold your breath. Self-care is a practice you have every right to partake in, unearned. It needs to be a part of your life that you don’t feel guilty about because you matter and you deserve to take care of yourself!

Additionally, not only do you deserve to take care of yourself, but you honestly need to do so. The old saying “you can’t pour from an empty cup” reigns true. You can’t give to others when your reserves have run dry. Participating in self-care benefits those around you because when you have energy and a clear mind, you can better help those around you. Now for the fun part, a few ways you can take care of yourself with a little creativity and (sometimes) a lot of water.

Tea

A good cup of tea can be truly delightful at really any point in your day. Whether it’s a cup of Earl Grey to give you some pep in the morning or midday, a mint or ginger tea to quell an upset stomach, or a piping hot cup of sleepytime tea at the end of the day to settle you in for bed, tea really does solve most of life’s problems. And taking the time to make yourself a cup, sit, relax, and enjoy it even for a few moments is one of the ultimate methods of self-care.

Bath

Okay, we said we’d go “beyond the bubble bath,” but is there really anything that compares to a relaxing, warm bath to ease all the tension from your office job, your favorite workout class, and carrying the kids around the house? Baths are a great way to unwind, and even using a bath bomb can add a little extra luxury to an already relaxing experience.

Face Steam

Facials can be costly, time-consuming, and sometimes even have bad after-effects like breakouts or rashes. An easy home alternative – a facial steam bath! It’s simple. After washing your face,

  • Grab a bowl of hot water
  • Lean over the bowl with a towel laid over the back of your head large enough to keep any steam from escaping
  • Stay there for 5-10 minutes to let the steam open up your pores
  • Remove the towel
  • Finish with a mud or charcoal mask to pull the dirt and oils from your face

You can even add essential oils to make the experience a bit more luxurious! An easy, at-home facial experience with a minimal investment of time.

Drinking Water

It sounds silly, but staying hydrated is one of the best forms of self-care. End of story. Proper hydration not only keeps your mood up and prevents fatigue, but it helps prevent bloating and headaches, improves concentration, and can even help you sleep better. All great reasons to stay properly hydrated! Additionally, the type of water you drink can have effects on your health. With the chemicals in tap water, it’s in you and your family’s best interest to make the switch to a healthier water option.
